Briar Rose Herbs

Farm & Apothecary

Where science meets the old ways — rooted in the land, guided by centuries of plant wisdom

Grown from the Earth,
Made with Intention

Briar Rose Herbs is a working herb farm and apothecary nestled in the rolling countryside of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Here, amid fields of coreopsis, goldenrod, and comfrey, we grow native and traditional medicinal plants — the same species that have sustained communities in the Mid-Atlantic for hundreds of years.

From seed to salve, every product is handcrafted on our farm with care, knowledge, and a deep respect for the botanical traditions of this region. Our medicines are rooted in science and enriched by the folk wisdom of the Native American, African American, and European settler communities who have tended this land.

Handcrafted Herbal Medicines

Each preparation begins with plants we grow ourselves — harvested at their peak, processed with care, and crafted into remedies backed by both tradition and research.

🫙

Tinctures

Concentrated herbal extracts made from our farm-grown plants, carefully prepared using time-honored methods. Each tincture captures the full potency of the plant in a form that's easy to use daily.

🍯

Oxymels

An ancient preparation blending raw honey and apple cider vinegar with medicinal herbs — sweet, tangy, and potent. A gentler way to enjoy herbal medicine, perfect for those who prefer to skip the alcohol.

🧴

Salves & Balms

Infused oils transformed into silky, healing salves for the skin. Made with beeswax and herbs grown right here on the farm, our topical preparations soothe, protect, and nourish.

🌿

Dried Herbs & Teas

Whole dried herbs, loose-leaf tea blends, and herbal preparations for your own kitchen apothecary. Grown without synthetic chemicals and dried at low temperatures to preserve their medicinal qualities.

Founder & Herbalist

About Andrea Crooms

Andrea Crooms is an agricultural scientist, herbalist, and the heart behind Briar Rose Herbs. With a Master's degree in Agriculture and years of experience as a doula and midwife, Andrea brings a rare combination of rigorous scientific training and deep, embodied knowledge of plant medicine.

Her expertise lies in the medicinal plants of the Mid-Atlantic region — species used for centuries by Native American, African American, and European settler communities. Andrea's work is a living bridge between these traditions: she researches the plants, studies the people who grew them, and honors the cultural knowledge embedded in every root, leaf, and flower.

At Briar Rose, Andrea cultivates not just herbs but a deeper understanding of our relationship with the land. Every tincture, salve, and oxymel she creates is backed by science — and touched by something a little more mysterious.
